The New Haven Chorale welcomes the Alturas Duo for "Sing from your Heart!" in a program which includes exciting vocal and instrumental music from Central and South America.  The program features Misa Criolla by Argentine Composer Ariel Ramirez, exciting instrumental music performed by the Alturas Duo, contemporary choral works in Spanish, and audience singing of popular songs in Spanish.  Pulsating rhythms, impassioned singing and virtuoso playing will energize your spirits and fill your hearts with joy!

About Alturas Duo:

Hailed for "one of a kind...marveous virtuosity," the Alturas Duo promotes South American and classical music by integrating the viola, charango, and guitar with Andean rhythms and new music.  Formed in 2001 by Carlos Boltes and Scott Hill, the Duo has performed and lectured in the U.S., Canada, Bolivia, Brazil, and Chile, recorded for Brioso and Naxos records, and appeared on NPR and Chile's Radio Beethoven.

About the New Haven Chorale:

New Haven Chorale is an auditioned, professionally conducted 100-member volunteer chorus. Chorale members come from all walks of life, united by their passion for choral-music excellence, their devotion to community cultural enrichment, and their commitment to community outreach.

Area high school, college and graduate students may audition to become members of New Haven Chorale through its Student Singer Program which mentors young choristers and sponsors their membership costs.  Student Singers who complete a concert season will be eligible to apply for the annual $1000 Chorale Scholarship for vocal studies.

Founded in 1950 and modeled after Robert Shaw's Collegiate Chorale, The New Haven Chorale actively participates within culturally-rich New Haven. We frequently perform with the New Haven Symphony and Orchestra New England and have joined voices with the Elm City Girls' Choir, Trinity Boys' Choir, the Kodaly Chorus, the Heritage Chorale, the Yale Glee Club, the Yale Camerata, and choruses of the Hartt School. Outstanding soloists from metropolitan New York or Yale's outstanding music faculty frequently add sparkle. We perform most often in Yale's Battell Chapel or Woolsey Hall, but also perform in towns throughout the Greater New Haven region. The Chamber Ensemble, open to all members, performs in more intimate settings.
